Slightly colorful

I tried to go for the garments with more color today. Quite pleased with the result.

Försökte välja kläder med mer färg idag. Rätt nöjd med resultatet.

the skirt

I made the skirt 7 years ago. It wasn't the first thing that I'd done without a "real pattern", but it was the first time I measured and calculated and really put some thought into the construction. I did feel very good when I ended up with a garment that fitted well, and it was all because of me.

Jag gjorde kjolen för 7 år sedan. Det var inte det första som jag hade gjort utan ett "riktigt mönster", men det var första gången som jag mätte och räknade och verkligen tänkte ut konstruktionen. Jag kände mig verkligen bra när jag fick ett plagg som passade, och det var bara på grund av mig.

Lastly, I just want to point out that the almost orange fabric in the skirt is not a color I like.

Till sist vill jag bara påpeka att det nästan orange tyget på kjolen är inte en färg som jag tycker om.

Slightly boring

I'm a nice person, so I like my boring clothes too.

Jag är en snäll person, så jag gillar mina tråkiga kläder också.

the future

I have big plans for this project. From the beginning the plan was to make several different fabrics from the same warp, threading and tie-up. That's still the plan, although I think I would like to use one red and one blue warp, and also one more threading.

Jag har stora planer för det här projektet. Från början var planen att göra flera olika tyger från samma varp, solvning och uppknytning. Det är fortfarande planen, men jag tror att jag vill använda en röd och en blå varp, och även en till solvning.

Now, when I'll get, let's say, four or five different fabrics that are slightly similar, but still different, why not make something of them that also are connected? So that's what I'll do, design a collection of clothes that'll use those fabrics (and other fabrics to). It works well with other assignments I'm working on too.

När jag nu kommer att få, t ex fyra eller fem, olika tyger som är lite lika, men ändå olika, varför inte göra nått av dem som är sammanhängande? Så det kommer jag att göra, jag ska designa en kollektion med kläder med de tygerna (och andra också). Det kommer att passa bra med andra uppgifter som jag också arbetar med.

The next step will be to think of what clothes to make, and the color and pattern of the fabrics for the clothes. When that's more clear, I weave a few more samples. That'll happen in a couple of weeks.

Nästa steg blir att tänka på vilka kläder jag ska göra, och färgen och mönstren på tygerna till kläderna. När det är mer fädigt ska jag väva mer prover. Det kommer att ske om ett par veckor.

Both the shirt and the skirt is from a local army surplus store. I bought them quite long ago actually.

Både skjortan och kjolen är från ett militärt överskottslager här i närheten. Det var rätt länge sen jag köpte dom faktiskt.

Självklart var jag tvungen att ha mina nya byxor.

Look, they fit me at the waist!

I finished these last night. It took me two evenings/nights to sew them. Approximately 8 hours. Feels like a lot for a pair of quite simple pants. One of my goals right now is to become a faster sewer.

Jag gjorde färdigt dessa i går kväll. Det tog två kvällar/nätter att sy dom. Ungefär 8 timmar. Känns som lite mycket för ett par ganska enkla byxor. Ett av mina mål just nu är att sy snabbare.

Material

As you may have noticed I have a tendency to fall in love with fabrics that are amazing, like the orange dupioni and the grey satin. I'm in love with this fabric too. It's a quite heavy wool fabric that's fulled. It hangs very nicely. Despite it being quite heavy and thick it doesn't feel like that when worn.

Som du kanske har märkt så förälskar jag mig ofta i fantastiska tyger, som den orange dupionen och den gråa satinen. Jag är förälskad i det här tyget också. Det är ett ganska tungt ulltyg som är filtat. Det hänger väldigt fint. Trots att det är ganska tungt och tjockt så känns det inte så när det bärs.

Conclusion

The goal with this project was to make a pair of pants that fits and that are both elegant/classic and comfortable/cosy. It feels like I've achieved those goals. I'm satisfied.

Målet med det här projektet var att göra ett par byxor om passar mig och som är både eleganta/klassiska och bekväma/mysiga. Det känns som om jag har nått de målen. Jag är nöjd.

SWAP update

A long time ago I announced that I had join the SWAP contest. If you thought I had forgotten all about it, you were wrong. I've actually started to work on most of the patterns for those garments. This is the first completed garment, but I'll start sewing the other pair of pants tonight. I hope I have time to do all the garments before the deadline. I want to do that, but I want great clothes too, and there's a few other things to do until April 30th too.

För länge sen berättade jag att jag hade gått med i SWAP tävlingen. Om du trodde att jag helt hade glömt det, så hade du helt fel. Jag har faktiskt börjat arbeta på nästan alla mönster till de plaggen. Det här är det första färdiga plagget, men jag ska börja sy det andra paret byxor ikväll. Jag hoppas att jag har tid att göra alla plagg innan sista datumet. Jag vill göra det, men jag vill ha fina kläder också, och det är en del andra saker som också måste göras innan 30 april.

I love all the complicated and interesting pattern you can make with weaving, but I think that the best part about weaving has to be the amazing colors that you get when you mix different weft and warp colors.

Jag älskar de komplicerade och intressanta mönster som man kan skapa med vävning, men jag tror att det bästa med vävning måste vara de fantastiska färger som man får när man blandar olika varp och inslags färger.

Besides from the shoes I'm not liking these items too much. But just because I know what I like, I don't have to just wear those things, right?

Med undantag av skorna så är jag inte jätteförtjust i de här sakerna. Men bara för att jag vet vad jag tycker om, så behöver jag väl inte bara ha sånt, eller hur?

the skirt

I bought the skirt on sale several years ago. I liked the color and the details. Otherwise I'm not usually wearing this type of skirts.

Jag köpte den här kjolen för flera år sedan på rea. Jag gillade färgen och detaljerna. Annars brukar jag inte ha den här sortens kjolar.

It has however been very practical. When I weave the different samples I want to be able to glance at the treadles once in a while to make sure I treadle correctly. It's impossible to do that in a longer skirt.

Den har däremot varit väldigt praktisk. När jag väver de olika proverna vill jag kunna kika på tramporna ibland så att jag vet att jag trampar rätt. Det är omöligt att göra det i en längre kjol.

• Took care of a few of the cows hooves. Since it's hard to explain the benefits of the treatment to the cows, some where not that thrilled, but everyone walked away on better hooves.

  Skötte om några av kornas klövar. Eftersom det är svårt att förklara fördelarna med behandlingen för korna, var det några som inte var överlyckliga, men alla gick därifrån på bättre klövar.
