I'm a big fan of hockey, of NHL-hockey especially. My favorite sport in the world. There's no greater feeling than when your team wins, when they win a playoff-game, when they win game 7, when they win in overtime.

Jag älskar hockey, speciellt NHL-hockey. Min favoritsport i hela världen. Det finns inget bättre än när ditt lag vinner, när de vinner en slutspelsmatch, när de vinner match 7, när de vinner på övertid.

I'm just so proud of them! My Carolina Hurricanes. They make me feel inspired and as if I could do anything. Now I'm just going to smile for the rest of the day.

I like skirts, to wear them and to make them. It's most fun when you've made them all by yourself. With the help of an circle it's easy to construct a skirt from scratch. If you're not entirely sure how to do it, I'm going to explain it all now!

Jag gillar kjolar, att ha dom och att sy dom. Roligast är det när man har gjort dom helt själv. Med en cirkel kan man lätt konstruera sin egen kjol. Vet du inte riktigt hur det går till så ska jag förklara allt du behöver veta nu!

The theory

In order to draw a circle you need to know it's radius (the distance from the center of the circle to it's edge). The radius can be calculated if you know the circle's circumference. You also need a number called pi (π). Pi is a long-digit number, but it's okey to calculated with 3,14 instead.

För att rita en cirkel utgår man från dess radie (avståndet från cirkelns mitt till dess ytterkant). Radien kan man räkna ut om man vet cirkelns omkrets. Man behöver också tal kallat pi (π). Pi är ett jättelångt tal, men det går bra att räkna med 3,14 istället.

I will explain how to construct half circle, three quarter circle and full circle skirts. If you for example are going to make a half circle skirt it's often enough to draw up a quarter of a circle and cut out two pieces or place it against a folded edge. Because I feel like it's easiest to start by drawing up the whole skirt the following instructions will deal with how to make just that.

Jag kommer att förklara hur man konstruerar halvcirkel-, trekvartscirkel- och helcirkelkjolar. Om man t ex ska göra en halvcirkelkjol räcker det egentligen oftast att rita upp en kvartscirkel och sedan klippa ut två delar eller lägga mot vikt kant. Eftersom jag tycker att det känns enklast att börja med att rita en hel kjol så följer nu instruktioner till att rita mönster till en sådan.

The materials

• A long ruler

  En lång linjal

• A tape measure

  Ett måttband

• A calculator

  En miniräknare

• A pen

• A large sheet of paper (use tape if needed)

  Ett stort ark papper (tejpa vid behov)

• A paper scissor

• Other things that you need for the skirt itself

Measurements

You need two measurements. The waist measurement (or the measurement of what you want the skirt to go around) and the length of the skirt.

Du behöver två mått. Midjemåttet (eller det du vill att kjolen ska omsluta) och kjolens längd.

Calculate the radius

As I explain you now need the radius, this is how you should calculate:

Nu behövs ju som sagt var radien, så här ska du räkna:

• HALF CIRCLE: Divide the waist measurement by 3,14.

  HALVCIRKEL: Dela midjemåttet med 3,14.

• THREE QUARTER CIRCLE: Multiply the waist measurement by 2 and divide that number by 9,42.

  TREKVARTSCIRKEL: Gångra midjemåttet med 2 och dela det talet med 9,42.

• FULL CIRCLE: Divide the waist measurement by 6,28.

  HELCIRKEL: Dela midjemåttet med 6,28.

• EVEN LARGER: To make a skirt that's even wider than a full circle, make for example 3 half circles or 2 full circles and sew those together. Now you need to divide the waist measurement by 3 (for 3 half circles) or 2 (for 2 full circles). If you intend to sew to full circles together add seam allowances now, for example add 2 cm for 1 cm seam allowances. Use that number to calculate the radius according to the instructions for a half circle or full circle.

Begin to draw

Draw a long line. It should be as long as the length of the skirt (A) + the radius (B, C or D) + the radius (B, C or D) + the length of the skirt (A). Mark those distances on the line. Draw another line from the middle of the first line in a right angel. For a half circle the second line should be as long as the radius (B) + the length of the skirt (A) and only be draw on one side of the first line. In the other cases the second line should be drawn on both sides of the first and be exactly as the first line, the two lines should intercept at the middle. Make marks for the radius (B, C or D) and the length of the skirt (A) on the new line.

Rita en lång linje. Den ska vara lika lång som kjolens längd (A) + radien (B, C eller D) + radien (B, C eller D) + kjolens längd (A). Märk ut de avstånden på linjen. Dra en till linje som går från mitten av den första linjen i en rät vinkel. För en halvcirkel ska den andra linjen vara lika lång som radien (B) + kjolens längd (A) och bara dras på ena sidan av den första linjen. Annars ska den andra linjen dras på båda sidor om den första och vara precis likadan som den första linjen, linjerna ska då mötas på mitten. Märk ut radien (B, C eller D) och kjolens längd (A) på den nya linjen.

Make the first circle

Now you need to draw two circles (or half, or three quarter), one for the waist and one for the bottom edge of the skirt. The circles center is where the two lines intercept. Start with the smaller circle. Mark out the length of the radius (B, C or D) from the center of the circle with a couple of inches in between and fill in the interspaces.

Du ska nu rita två cirklar (eller halv, eller trekvarts), en där midjan ska va och en där kjolen ska sluta. Cirklarnas mitt är där de två linjerna möts. Börja med den midre cirkeln. Märk ut en radies längd (B, C eller D) från cirkelns mitt med några centimeters mellanrum och fyll i mellanrummen.

Make the second circle

The distance from the center of the circle to the outer edge of the second circle it the radius (B, C or D) + the lenght of the skirt (A). Mark and draw that one too. Now the pattern is ready! Cut it out.

Avståndet från cirkelns mitt till ytterkanten på den andra cireln är en radie (B, C eller D) + kjolens längd (A). Märk ut och rita ut även den. Nu är mönstret färdigt! Klipp ut det.

Cut out the fabric

Remeber to add seam allowances and hems when you cut out your fabric. The pattern pieces can get quite large with these kinds of skirts. Even if you want to make a full circle skirt the fabric may not be wide enough, in that case you have to make to half circles and sew them together. Only cut the pattern in the middle.

Kom ihåg att lägga till sömsmån och fåll när du klipper ut ditt tyg. Det är lätt att mönsterdelarna till sådana här kjolar blir stora. Även om du vill göra t ex en helcirkelkjol så kanske inte tyget är tillräckligt brett, då får du göra två halvcirklar istället och sy ihop dom. Dela bara mönstret på mitten.

If you intend to make a really wide skirt from two full circles, you need to cut in the circles in order to have something to sew in. Cut open along one of the straight lines you drew in the beginning.

Om du planerar att göra en jättevid kjol av två helcirklar, måste du klippa i cirklarna för att få nått att sy i. Klipp upp längs en av de raka linjerna som du ritade från början.

Sew your skirt

When you sew your skirts together it's good to remember that a large portion on the skirt will hang on the bias and there's a great chance that the fabric will stretch differently. If you want a straight bottom hem you therefore should let the skirt hang for a few days and check if the bottom edge is straight before you hem the skirt.

När du syr ihop din kjol är det bra att tänka på att en stor del av kjolen kommer att hänga på skrådden och då är det stor chans att tyget töjer sig olika. Om man vill ha en helt rak nederkant ska man därför låta kjolen hänga några dagar och därefter kontrollera att nederkanten är jämn och fålla därefter.

During the last few weeks it has become very obvious to me that I'm not going to be a perfect blogger and post month anfter month at regular pace. That's just not the way I work. The things that excite me the most changes, and if blogging is not on that list I just wont do it. But I have no doubt that there will be a time when I post daily again, and the there will be a time when I hardly post once a week and then that changes and so on. I'm just going to stop thinking that I will every have a regular schedule for posting.

Under de senaste veckorna har det blivit uppenbart för mig att jag inte kommer att bli någon perfekt bloggerska och skriva inlägg månad efter månad i en jämn takt. Det är helt enkelt inte så jag fungerar. Det som intresserar mig mest ändras hela tiden, och om bloggandet inte finns med på listan så kommer jag helt enkelt inte att göra det. Men jag tvivlar inte på att det kommer att komma en tid när jag skriver dagligen, och sen knappt en gång i veckan och sen ändras det och så vidare. Jag ska bara sluta att tro att jag någonsin kommer att ha ett färdigt schema för mina inlägg.

Right now sewing is on the top of my list and noting else.

I received a new camera yesterday, it's called the Olympus E-620 and it's just been released. It's my first DSLR, so I'm not quite familiar with all the buttons and functions yet. Since I love macro, I got a macro lens too, Sigma 105 mm. The photos below are all taken using that lens.

Jag fick en ny kamera igår, den heter Olympus E-620 och har just släppts. Det är min första systemkamera, så jag har inte helt koll på alla knappar och funktioner än. Eftersom jag älskar makro, köpte jag ett makroobjektiv också, Sigma 105 mm. Fotona nedanför är tagna med det objektivet.

Don't know if anyone has noticed, but it's been more than a week since I wrote something on this blog. Having the fantastic guests (my boyfriend and his nephew) here just changed my daily routines completely.

Vet inte om det är någon som har märkt det, men det är mer än en vecka sen jag skrev något på den här bloggen. Besöket av de fantastiska gästerna (min pojkvän och hans brorson) förändrade mina dagliga rutiner helt och hållet.

So, what have I done during all this time? Not very much creative. Just finished a skirt and almost a dress. The SWAP has to be finished during the next week. I wont do much but sewing until then.

Så, vad har jag gjort under all den här tiden? Inte så mycket kreativt. Bara en färdig kjol och nästan en färdig klänning. SWAP:en måste vara färdig under nästa vecka. Jag kommer inte att göra mycket mer än att sy fram tills dess.

I also plan to make a few more posts this week.

Jag planerar också att göra några fler inlägg den här veckan.

I'm afraid that I'm not a very fun blogger right now. Sorry about that, it will get better soon. The reason could be that I've felt a bit lazy recently, but it's also because I've worked (the kind of work that I get paid for) a bit more than usually during the last week and also during this. Now we have a guests too, my boyfriend and his brothers son (who's the same age as my siblings). They'll stay until the end of next week.

Jag är rädd för att jag inte är någon rolig bloggare just nu. Ledsen för det, det ska bli bättre snart. Orsaken skulle kunna vara att jag har känt mig lite lat på sistonde, men också att jag har arbetat (den sortend arbete som jag får betalt för) lite mer än vanligt under den förra veckan och även under den här. Nu har vi gäster också, min pojkvän och hans brors son (som är i samma ålder som mina småsyskon). De kommer att stanna tills slutet av nästa vecka.

But I've started work on some more garments for the SWAP. It's not much time left now. But I so want to finish in time.

Men jag har börjat arbeta på några fler plagg till SWAP:en. Det är inte mycket tid kvar nu. Men jag vill hemskt gärna bli klar i tid.

• Took care of the cows with the help of my little brother and sister, they were home from school in order to get some work experience. Very fun!

When I find something that I like it easily take over my life. From when I was about ten to eighteen my favorite activity was to read a book. Plenty of books very consumed over the years, but later on the reading diminished. Not because it wasn't fun anymore, but because I discovered more things that also were fun, perhaps even more fun.

Right now I hardly remember when I last read a book. Feels very tragic.

I've been thinking some on how it ended up like this, from several books per week to a few per year. A part of the explanation is of course that it's so much that I want to do with my time and to create something new feels slightly more important than to read something that someone else has made. In addition to that books aren't as available as when I was younger and went to school in the big city. The library was right next to the bus stop and the bus didn't really depart every ten minutes, so that meant that I spend quite a lot of time at the library.

Now I'm not in town very often. I miss the nice library.

A solution is of course audiobooks, those you can listen to while your hands and eyes are occupied with something else, but it's not quite as good as being alone with the book. You can't reread, take a pause and think, you are sort of at the mercy of the reader.

But I'll give it a try anyway. A literary experience it is none the less.

The thing that got me thinking of all this was a post at Knitbuddies with a list of 100 books made by the BBC's viewers in 2003. Kitty had read 74 of the books in the list, I didn't really reach that number, not by far. However I can add that it's possible that I've missed a book I've read, my memory isn't all that great and the English titles may have confused me.

När jag hittar något som jag gillar så tar det lätt över mitt liv. Från det att jag var ca tio till arton var min favoritsysselsättning att läsa en bok. En hel del hanns med under de åren, men sen avtog läsandet. Inte för att det inte var roligt längre, utan för att jag upptäckte fler saker som också var roliga, kanske till och med roligare.

Just nu kommer jag knappt ihåg när jag senast läste en bok. Känns väldigt tragiskt.

Jag har funderat lite på varför det har blivit så här, från flera böcker i veckan till några per år. En del av förklaringen är så klart att det är så mycket som jag vill ägna min tid åt och att skapa något nytt själv känns aningen viktigare än att läsa något som någon annan har gjort. Dessutom så är böcker inte riktigt lika tillgängliga som det var när jag var yngre och gick i skola i den stora staden. Biblioteket låg precis vid busshållplatsen och bussarna gick inte direkt var tionde minut, så det betydde att jag spenderade rätt mycket tid på biblioteket.

Nu är jag väldigt sällan inne i stan. Saknar det fina biblioteket.

En lösning är förstås ljudböcker, det kan man ju lyssna på medan man har händerna och ögon sysselsatta med något annat, men det är inte riktigt lika bra som att vara ensam med sin bok. Man kan inte läsa om, stanna upp och tänka till, man är liksom utlämnad till den som läser.

Men jag ska ge det ett försök. En litterär upplevelse blir det ju ändå.

Sjtton av de hundra böckerna har jag alltså läst. Men livet är inte slut än. Såg dessutom precis ett namn som verkade bekant på listan Nevil Shute, kollade upp den svenska titeln och kom fram till att den har jag läst. Bra bok om jag inte minns fel. Så nu är det arton.
