Making the grey top

Step 1

Cut out the lining and sewed it together. I used a linen tabelcloth as lining and didn't add any seam allowances to the top and bottom edge.

This is what the inside looks like.

Step 2

Sewed the plastic things (what are they called in English?) onto the seams of the lining, and also to the sides of the back opening.

The plastic things are behind the seams.

Step 3

Sewed the hooks and eyes to the sides of the back opening by hand.

The back closing

Closes with hooks and eyes at the back.

Step 4

Cut out bias strips from the lining fabric and sewed them to the top and bottom edge of the lining bodice.

Step 5

Cut out the outer fabric and sewed it together. This time with seam allowances added to all sides.

Step 6

Pinned the outer fabric and the lining together. Folded the seam allowances of the outer fabric over and sewed it all together by hand. All done.

Nålade ihop yttertyget och fodret. Vek in yttertygets sömsmåner och sydde ihop allt för hand. Allt klart.

Handsewned stitches

The lining and outer fabric was handsewned together.

Oh, wow! The work that's gone into this is amazing--and it looks so sleek! I think the plastic under the seams is boning--these were originally made from whale bones, hence the name.

& love the orange dress and reversible belt, too. Such great work!

Thanks, Frida, for the explanation! No wonder it looks so nice and clean and smooth on the outside -- the foundation is a work of art in itself. I also like the hooks and eyes as closures. Once again, congratulations on a really well-made garment!
